Then Came Alexandra by E.L. Todd

The story starts when Alexandra, the protagonist, decides to leave New York and start over in a new place. She broke up with her boyfriend, Paul, because he had cheated on her, but we can see that that is not the only reason she needs a change. She is a nurse and something happened to her, some incident on the hospital.

“She could never tell anyone what happened. It was a secret she´d take to the grave.”

So she goes to Savannah, Georgia, and to stay with her aunt Martha, a cotton Grower. There she starts over at university, deciding be a writer because it´s “safer” she chooses an English major.

One day, her aunt hurts her back, and a friend of the family comes to help her with the fields. This is when we meet Blaise and an undeniable attraction starts between them.

Blaise has his own problems, he is a 24 years old man who has to take care of the family business “Cunnings Cotton” when his parents die. He struggles between keeping his family legacy running and pursueing his dream: to become a lawyer. Also he is dealing with his ex girlfriend who doesn´t accept that the relationship is over. He wants to find a woman that wants him because of him and not because of his money and his “abilities” ( his words not mine!!). He is a little vain:

“I just – I feel like girls want to sleep with me because of my abilities and my money, not for who I am”

They start dating and quickly fall in love.

“You are my everything Alexandra. You´re everything to me”

It´s a beautiful love story, some moments and some dialogs are a bit corny, but not in a bad way. The characters are real, not perfect, they have flaw and fears that make them easy for the reader  to relate to. It´s a short book, and it finishes way too soon. The plot is a little predictable but that doesn´t stop you from enjoying the ride. Towards the end the story becomes more interesting.

We really enjoyed this book. It's charming and captivating and sweet. And let's not forget, hot as hell. We are team Blaise all the way. There's something about Paul we don't like and we think he's lying.

It´s important to say that this book is part of the Southern Love series, and it does not end in this book, the finale is totally open and will leave you with the need to keep reading. We must admit we can't wait for the next one... we need to know what happens :)
